Micro Hydro Power Plant in Letung 
Sub Village, Second Prize Winner of 
“Kalpataru Award” of Jambi Province
The Letung Sub Village site in Jambi has just 
received second prize in the ‘Kalpataru Award’
category as Environmental Trendsetters. 
This RUPES-BUNGO location was chosen by 
H. Zulkifli Nurdin, Governor of Jambi in 
recognition of the villager’s effort in protec-
ting the jungle rubber and the river by 
initiating the development of micro hydro 
power plant. More

Another Story from “Max Havelaar” 
Region: A Visit to the Bupati of Lebak
The Lebak District can be reached within four 
hours of journey from Jakarta, capital of 
Indonesia, toward the interior of Mount 
Halimun-Salak National Park.  Adminis-
tratively, the district consists of 300 villages 
with a total area of ±285,996 hectares.  
The Lebak District itself reminds us to the 
well-known book of Max Havelaar, written 
and published in 1860 by Eduard Douwes 
Dekker.  The book tells us about the ill 
and discrimination condition by the Dutch
Administration to the native people at that 
time, based on his personal account as
assistant-resident in Lebak in 1856. More

SEANAFE Lao Trip Report
Jesus Fernandez had three purposes of going 
to Vientiane, Laos on 7-11 May 2007.  These 
were to 1) conduct a basic training on 
research proposal writing and packaging for 
selected faculty members of LaoNAFE 
member institutions; 2) facilitate the 
resource mobilization workshop of LaoNAFE 
officials; and 3) attend the LaoNAFE 
Committee meeting.  All these activities took 
place at Thalat Electric Company Guesthouse
and Training Center in Viengkham District, 
Vientiane Province. More

One-day Seminar. Improving the Capacity 
of Rubber-Based Plantation Developers 
with Environmental Sense, 
Muara Bungo, 1 May 2007.
The jungle rubber system is unique: 
although it has low productivity, it effecti-
vely conserves biodiversity. Rubber Agro-
forestry System (RAS) is a method of 
cultivation that introduced good planting 
materials (clone rubber) with low until 
medium input (weeding and applying ferti-
lizer) into traditional cultivation to improve 
the productivity. More

ReGrIn Project: Bogor Reseachers on 
Field Visit to West Aceh.
In the current phase, the ReGrIn project 
plans assess current land use planning 
process and explore how available research
results and assessment methods and tools 
including simulation models can assist in 
the participatory planning in the 
post-tsunami context. More

vation in Tropical Landscape: Opportu-

So far, most of the research only stop on 
the exploration of the species diversity as 
an individual and population context (only 
talk about diversity and similarity), but 
never talk about what its role and function 
in the ecosystems and what happen if at 
less one of the function get lost. More
