Fellowships
Thee World Agroforestry Centre accepts fellowships that will advance its research for development agenda. It is strongly recommended that candidates consult the Centre’s website, in particular the Research section and key documents, including the World Agroforestry Centre Strategy 2008-15 and Medium Term Plan 2009-11 to make sure any planned research work is relevant to the Centre. We have two levels of fellowships:
Degree fellows are students registered at a university for masters or doctoral degrees. They join an ICRAF programme to work on research projects for a period from 3 to 36 months depending on their research topics. A degree fellowship leads to submission of a thesis and award of a degree.
Research fellows are researchers or practitioners at partner institutions who require short-term, practical training in specific areas, including laboratory techniques, research and dissemination methodologies. The short-term practical training costing will vary depending on the request.
Students can either apply for a fellowship opportunity offered by the Centre or, in collaboration with their academic supervisor, suggest a specific fellowship theme that is of interest to the Centre and the national university.
Quite often, supervisors and students approach Centre scientific staff directly in order to establish research collaboration through collaborative projects and fellowships. The Training Unit also manages and administers these fellowships by identifying a suitable opportunity and supervisor, facilitating the negotiation process relating to these fellowships, registering, monitoring and coordinating them.
Interested students must send the following documentation:
