Dr Romano Kiome, a Kenyan national is currently the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture in Kenya. He has a masters degree in soil and water management from the University of Wageningen and a Ph.D. on computerized modeling and simulating crop production under various soil and water management domains at the University of East Anglia in UK. He has carried out various postdoctoral research works with the Natural Resource Institute (NRI) and Silsoe University.
His main research work is in computerized modeling of crop for decision making in soil and water management regimes and prediction of sustainable land use systems.
He is a member and/or chair of 12 technical advisory committees at national and international level. Has led several national and regional projects before getting into research management. He is a Board member of three other research institutes in Kenya, board member of the World Vegetable Centre, of CIMMYT. He has published over 48 articles, book chapters, conference papers and reports.
