CBFM Winners with
Minister of Forestry M.S. Kaban |
Jakarta,
10—11 August 2006, The Ministry
of Forestry Indonesia, supported by The Ford Foundation, SGPPTF
– UNDP, MFP – DFID, SMCP – GTZ, PERUM PERHUTANI, PT.
INHUTANI II, WWF, World Agroforestry Centre – ICRAF, Forestry
Communications Forum (FKKM), Forest Watch Indonesia
held the first Community Based Forest Management (CBFM)
Award in Manggala Wanabakti, Jakarta on 10-11 August 2006. The
event was opened by Minister of Forestry M.S. Kaban and hosted
by Dik Doank, an Indonesian Singer. |
The 10 winners of CBFM Awards were:

Kelompok Masyarakat Pelestari Hutan Mitra
Wana Lestari Sejahtera (KMPH MWLS), who are in the process of
creating CBFM in Sumberjaya and have also been supported by ICRAF.
The ceremony was attended by Pak Erpan, a representative of
the MWLS group.

The selection committees were composed of members from Land
Rehabilitation (RLPS) and Social Forestry – FF (Ford Foundation),
the Department of Forestry (General
Secretary, The Directorate General of Protection and Natural
Conservation, The Directorate General of Forest Production
Development, The Directorate General of
Land Rehabilitation and Social Forestry, Planology
Agency, and Research
and Development), and others partner NGO’s (FKKM,
Capable, LP3ES, WWF, LEI), Research Institutions (CIFOR, ICRAF),
Universities (UI, IPB), and (PT. Inhutani II).

Workshop to share lessons learned
Theme: Practice of
Community Based Forest Management with the Purpose of Clarifying
the Law.

Several important recommendations came from discussion on this topic:
-
Government Rule 34 , version 42 should be
launched immediately, to ensure that the the tools are practised
in the field, because it is thought that this version can overcome
several of the problems that have long been felt in the field.

Discussion of alternative means to SK
Menhut no 32/Kpts-II/2001 (which is complicated, time and labour
consuming and expensive) for the reservation of land for HKM
activities.

Exhibition of
”
CBFM learned products” 10 – 11
Agustus 2006 Lobby I, Manggala Wanabakti Building. Information in the exhibition was
presented using a variety of means; in posters, film, books, banners,
photos, forestry products and local handicrafts.
The material of exhibition was divided into
4 themes, they were:

CBFM in State forest that has not been
certified
-
CBFM in State forest that has already been
certified, as well as Protection Forest.
-
CBFM in Traditionally Managed Forests.
-
CBFM outside State Forest areas (Privately or community owned
forests).
| ICRAF opened
a booth with in social forestry theme.
We displayed and sold ICRAF books and the series of seven
ICRAF 7 series posters. RUPES
also displayed local handicrafts and products from rubber. We
had nearly 150 visitors to our booth including people from
government and non-government institutions, media, local
NGO’s, research institutions, universities, funding
Institutions, students and environmental institutions.
Fortunately we also made a good income of about Rp. 1.145.000,
with the best selling book being “Tehnik Pembibitan
Vegetatif”. |

Awarding of the CBFM prizes and open forum
The CBFM award session opened with dance performances from IPB and IKJ
students and a Film of Community Based Forestry Management, this
film was supported by ICRAF., WWF and the Department of
Forestry.
The winners of CBFM
award received Rp. 10.000.000,-, a trophy and a
certificate. |
